Goodbye swing

Today we put away the swing and Bumbo seat. It was bittersweet - very happy to have the space back but sad because it means he is growing up (not so sad about the Bumbo - that was a worthless purchase.)

The swing was one of our "must haves" for the early months. Every morning, he used to swing happily while I ate breakfast. Since turning six months he has used it less and less, and not at all in the past two weeks. A month ago I wouldn't have dreamed of putting it away, but he's way too mobile now and prefers sitting upright to reclining. Very suddenly he's becoming less a baby and more a little boy.

Conor has started saying "dada" as part of his babble. Actually it's more like "ahheeblablaeeeoohbababaDADA", but we're definitely hearing a "D" sound, which is new for him . Even though he isn't really meaning anything by it now, we still like hearing it!

Beach Day at school

Took this when I dropped him off this morning. Tired boy, blurry picture, but I still think it's 100% adorable.

First cold

Conor has his first cold :(

"Welcome to daycare! Here's your free tote bag and complimentary rhinovirus infection."

Other than the copious amounts of snot and boogers in his nose and the occasional cough, he doesn't really seem too bothered by it. I hope he gets better soon!

6 month Checkup

We went to Conor's 6 month well visit today. He was in a great mood and the doctor commented he was the happiest baby she'd seen all day. He got especially giggly when she checked his hips.

He was 18lbs 14.5oz (50-75%), 27.5" long (75%), and his head was 18.5" (95%). She said it looks like he's starting to settle into a lower growth percentile, as many babies do that are big at birth and is perfectly okay.

He enjoyed sitting on the exam table and playing with the paper.

Unfortunately the good mood came to a screeching halt when he had to get 4 shots :(

First Day of School

Conor started daycare today. We were all up early to get ready, load up (why does it take 4 more bags than usual to get a 19 lb person through the day???), and were off before dawn. There were plenty of tears (mine, not his). His teacher called an hour after dropoff to say he was doing great, and having fun playing with bubbles.

When I called at lunch he was sleeping - that nap ended up going 1.5h, a rarity at home. He was napping again when I picked him up. He drank every bit of his four bottles and even had some sweet potatoes and oatmeal. The teachers took pictures of his first day for us and it looks like he had a blast. He made a new friend, David, an adorable 12 month old whose favorite word is "lights". He liked watching David walk and giggled when he heard him talk. Unfortunately David will be moving to the toddler room soon, so hopefully Conor will like his other classmates as much.

I hope tomorrow goes as well!

First haircut

Conor got his first haircut today! It was really starting to get in his eyes so it was definitely time. He was a very good boy and didn't cry. He looks about 3 years older now.

With Daddy, checking this place out.

Sitting on Mommy's lap, getting ready.

All done!

We opted out of the $4 "First Haircut" photo and certificate, but were able to save some of his baby hair. We were also warned that he has a "serious cowlick". Um, yeah, he's a Carmody!

365 in 2010

I've started a new photography project - 365 in 2010. The idea is to take a picture every day for a year. There's a link to the Flickr set in the toolbar.
