Happy 2nd Birthday!

My baby boy turned 2 today!  He's grown into such a funny, lovable, rambunctious little guy over the last year.  This year has flown by - I wish time would slow down because I love this age.  While at times he certainly fits the profile of the "terrible twos", he keeps us laughing and loving every day and I wouldn't change a single thing about him.  I can't wait to see what the next year brings!

We had a small family birthday party last weekend.  Both sets of grandparents, as well as his Aunt Kelly, Uncle Jason and cousins Madeline and Clara, and Uncle Brian and Aunt Katie traveled to celebrate with him.  We had a great time with them - I have lots of pictures to share that I need to post.

This weekend, we did lots of fun family stuff.  Friday, Conor and dada went to the zoo.  Yesterday we took him to see Cars 2 in the theater.  He did wonderfully.  It was hard for him to sit still but he was really interested in the movie and made it through the whole show without incident (except for almost grabbing the hair of the woman seated in front of us.)

Today we took him to his first baseball game.  We had a blast!  Our seats were great - shaded, and in a section with extra space and a little table.  He watched the entire game and cheered his Tigers on to victory.

(I did bring my camera, but forgot the memory card - doh!  Cel phone pictures will have to suffice.)

Stealing mama's sunglasses:

He enjoyed the little table for snacks and playing with firetrucks:

Perfect day for a game at Comerica Park:

and finally, one more monthly update.

23 Months

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug
he actually posed for this one for me!!!

Conor is 23 months old today!  I missed the 22 month update so I just looked back to 21 months to see where we left off - he's changed so much in two months.  Although he's always been very verbal, he is getting really good at expressing exactly what he wants in words.  He is all boy and would spend every waking moment outside if he could.  He likes chasing the dogs, digging in the vegetable bed and watering the flowers.

While he is rambunctious and full of energy, he also has a very sweet and gentle side.  He loves giving hugs and kisses and snuggling.  Of all his books, two of his favorites are "Baby Dear" (a Little Golden Book from the 50's about a little girl who takes care of a baby doll while her mom takes care of her baby sister - not sure what the appeal of this one is for him but he always asks for it!) and "I Love You So".  So sweet.  If you ask him, "Who's mama's boy?"  he says proudly, "Conor!"  :)

Age 23 months

Weight 30lbs?

Length 33-34"? 35"!!!

Size Mostly 2T clothes (though the shorts tend to sag!), size 6.5 or 7 extra wide shoes, size 5 diapers, 3T hats

Hair First buzzcut this month, and is growing out fast

Teeth Doing a little better with brushing and prefers an adult toothbrush.  2 year molars still not in.

Sleeping Much better - usually sleeps through the night but almost always wakes for the day between 5:45 and 6am.  Takes one nap in the afternoon, usually ~2 hours.

Eating Loves dipping foods in some type of sauce; favorite foods are animal crackers (sometimes sounds like "animal carcass"), strawberries ("straw-bees"), peas, cereal bars (has a Cereal Bar song and dance too!), oranges and Chipotle.  Had his very own ice cream cone for the first time this month (courtesy of Nana and Papa).

Movement Runs everywhere.  Working on riding a tricycle.  Jumps with both feet off the ground.  Getting really good at kicking and "scooping hands" at swimming.

Milestones Counts to 10.

Outings Swimming lessons, Green Street Fair, CF Great Strides walk, Touch-A-Truck.

Favorite toys/activities Books (favorites are “I Love You So”, “Scuffy”, "Baby Dear" and "Mater's Tall Tales"), movies (Cars and Shrek are his favorites), anything transportation related (especially buses, fire trucks and garbage trucks), swimming, being outside, watering plants, sand and water table, Play-Doh, playing "Are You?"

Words/sounds knows hundreds of words; some of my favorites are bandage (for a band-aid), garbage truck (sometimes says "barbage truck") and bummer

Memorable Moments haircut, spending lots of time with Nana and Papa when mama was sick, sitting in a firetruck at Baskin Robbins, watching the Royal Wedding with mama ("Hats! Princess!")

20 months

pre haircut :)

Conor is 20 months old today!  This month he managed to completely give up his paci, something we've been putting off way too long.  After misplacing his daycare paci one Friday and taking his nap without it, we decided to cut it out cold turkey and he did great without it!  Then a couple weeks later, we made the transition to the toddler bed and it did not go well at all.  After three sleepless nights, we gave him back his paci - the only comfort object he's ever taken to.  It did help and slowly he's gotten used to the toddler bed.

Length  ~33”
Size 18-24 month and 2T clothes, size 6 extra wide shoes, size 5 diapers, 3T hats

17 months!

Conor turned 17 months old on Friday.  He's changing so much it's hard to keep up with him.  He is gaining more independence but has really developed a love of cuddling.  His communication skills are improving, which is (slowly) helping him work through his tantrums.  (Oh man, the tantrums.  My mantra is, "He's a toddler.  He's  toddler.")  He is also really starting to test his limits.  One of his favorite things to do is climb on a chair, then look at us and smile.  Sometimes we have to cover our faces because it makes us laugh, and we try to be consistent with "discipline".

12 month Report

It's a good thing this is the last of the monthday pics because it's getting harder to get him to sit still in the glider for long!

Official 12 month picture is forthcoming.  Also, I haven't given up on the 365 Project, I just haven't gotten around to getting the pics up from the last 10 days or so.  I'm working on his party pics, his first year slideshow, and catching up on the 365 photos all at once.  My Lightroom 3 Beta expires today so I splurged and bought the real thing - not because I think owning a dslr makes me a pro (cough) but because it's fun and I enjoy it.  Besides, I got a great deal with the University discount.  But I digress...

Age 12 months

Weight officially 22 lbs 11oz (~50th percentile)

Length officially 31" (75th-90th percentile) (head is 19.5", 95th+ percentile).  Unless he's shrinking I guess both our scale and tape measure are a bit off...

Size 12 month+ tops and pants, size 4 shoes, size 4 diapers, 2T hats :)

Eyes  Blue.  It's probably time to retire this category because I really think they're staying blue!

Hair  In need of his fourth cut

Teeth  8, and I think he's working on molars

Sleeping  Mostly sleeping thru the night (until he got sick over the weekend), 1-2 naps

Eating  Transitioning to whole cow's milk, 20-24oz/day total, offered in a sippy with meals then finished in a bottle, plus 3 meals of table food, and 2 snacks. Still taking a bedtime bottle.  Too many new foods to list, but new favs include baked beans, refried beans, SB&J (sunflower butter and jelly), Chex, Spanish rice, graham crackers and pita pizzas (mini pitas with tomato sauce and cheese on top).

Movement  Standing on his own, 1-2 steps, trying to stand up on his own, waving bye-bye, shakes head "no"

Milestones  See above, plus (from the pedi's checklist) object permanence, puts objects into and takes objects out of a container, imitates people, plays ball

11 months!!!

air (bass) guitar???

Conor is 11 months old today! Time is really flying lately. This month he perfected crawling, pulling up, and has started cruising and walking with help. He's into EVERYTHING - it's fun to watch how curious he is but exhausting keeping him out of trouble. He seems to be less frustrated now that he can get around so easily. However, he has also started throwing mini tantrums when he doesn't get his way. His personality has really bloomed, too. He's a funny little dude! Everywhere we go, he likes to flirt with people he meets - no signs of stranger anxiety at all.

We are busy planning his first birthday party, which will be at home on his actual birthday, June 26th. He has a busy month leading up to that. We're taking a vacation to Traverse City this weekend. We're also looking forward to his one year photo session with Kelli of Purple Tree Photography, who did his newborn pictures. We will have them taken at Matthaei Botanical Gardens in Ann Arbor on June 12th.

It has been an exciting month for Conor. He has perfected rolling and is pushing up well on his tummy. He can pull his knees up under him but hasn't managed to get up on all fours yet, although he does scoot forwards and backwards with his knees. He is trying to tripod and has done it for a few seconds but doesn't quite have the balance down yet. He also likes to stand (assisted of course, although he is very strong and doesn't need much help.)

He is sleeping better, on occasion. He does very well going down for the night. Now that he can roll he sleeps on his tummy. He will sleep through the night a few nights in a row, then go back to waking several times. He is now taking three naps a day, almost always in his crib, usually 45 minutes although ocasionally 1.5 hours! I strongly suspect he is teething and hope they break through soon!

4 months!

Conor is 4 months old today! He had a big month full of lots of changes. He's rolling easily both ways now. He likes to sit up with help and started sitting in his high chair.

After a few weeks of fabulous sleep, he started waking more recently. He usually goes to bed between 7:30 and 8. After that all bets are off. Most nights he sleeps until around 2-3, when he'll nurse then go back to bed fairly easily. Sometimes (rarely) he'll sleep until it's time to get up for the day (7-7:30). More often he's up at least once - sometimes it's just a series of 45 min naps until morning. We can usually get him back to sleep with the paci.

Last week he really got the hang of rolling and I went to get him from his nap to find this:

We stopped swaddling that night because I'm afraid he'll roll in his sleep and get stuck. The first few nights have been okay - pretty much the same not so great sleep as before. Hopefully it will improve.

He had a wonderful visit from Mimi this month. Lots of playing, snuggles and naps. We miss her and can't wait for Christmas!
